The Solheim Cup is a bi-annual golf tournament between the top professional women golfers from the United States and Europe, with alternating years being played in each locale. The match play and the colorful, noisy crowd make the tournament unique and different from a normal weekend on the tour. The European ladies bested their stateside counterparts all weekend, but the home crowd still seemed to enjoy the event. I woke up early to catch the early rounds of match play, then went on the final afternoon and tried to catch whomever was making the story. Photos Copyright Dustin Bradford/Icon Sports Media.
The Outlaws would seal a first-seed in the playoffs, an undefeated home season, and a record for the best winning percentage in MLL history (regardless of the outcome of the final two games) with this middle-of-the-day 14-12 win. Photos copyright Getty Images 2013.
Two games were wrapped into one in this Thursday afternoon matchup, around a 90 minute rain delay. The first 6 1/2 innings featured dominant pitching on both sides and no scoring. The second half featured a run on a wild pitch, and four subsequent runs on the Rockies shaky relievers. Very few pictures were made in the first 6 1/2, and lots presented themselves at the end. Unfortunately for the crowd, the visiting team had the better time after the rain delay, and the Marlins beat the Rockies 5-3. Photos copyright Getty Images 2013.
Prospects and orange shirts. I hadn't heard of half of the players on the Marlins' team (which is odd for me), but I enjoyed shooting the youngsters. The questionable day glow orange jersey's have grown on me since I first saw them, even if they don't last. The Rockies got behind a great start by Jorge De La Rosa and three relievers combined and worked an eighth inning jam with the basis loaded (culminating with a broken bat groundout by Giancarlo Stanton with the bases loaded) to preserve the lead. The Rockies got behind a very solid Jhoulys Chacin start and the game was over in 2 hours, 18 minutes, perfect amount of time since my toddler son and wife and father in law were at the game as spectators. Unfortunately Chacin's bid for a complete game was interrupted in the eighth inning and his frustration was visible on his face. Photos copyright Getty Images 2013.
The Rockies jumped out to a first inning 6-1 lead after a Wilin Rosario triple and Tyler Colvin homerun. Charlie Manuel's Phillies managed 4 more runs but the Rockies would keep the lead and win 10-5. Photos copyright Getty Images 2013.
