December 23, 2012 - Browns at Broncos

The Broncos win their tenth in a row against the Cleveland Browns. Not much news value except for solidifying the Broncos hold on a high playoff seed after losses by the Texans and Patriots. I had a decent game and enjoyed the light and for the first time this year, worked from the Broncos sideline. A couple of key Browns players suffered injuries, so this was painful for their fans, including many of my own family members.

December 2, 2012 - Buccaneers at Broncos

Manning and the Broncos clinched the AFC West with four games to play and the Broncos won their seventh game in a row to improve to 9-3. I felt a little looser for this my second NFL game of the season and I had a really decent game. I wasted more time than I thought I would racing up to the 500 level to shoot an overhead shot - it is literally a half-mile or so of walking and escalators to get from the field level up to the nosebleeds. I regretted not bringing a wider lens when I got up there, too, but I am glad I made the picture. All images copyright Getty Images 2012.

December 1, 2012 - Rifle v Silver creek - Colorado 3A Football Championship game

I shot the action at the Colorado 3A championship game between Silver Creek High School in Longmont against the Rifle, Colorado team, and, in an odd business decision, the images were never shown to the players or family, onsite nor online, and instead, we simply pushed plaques featuring the winning team with the trophy. No biggie, I still shot the great game in great light with great access and great plays, with great emotion and jubilation to top it off. I couldn't NOT share some of the pictures, and more are available to view here.

November 30, 2012 - Aussie Rules St. Kilda team meets with Denver Broncos

Once again, for the third time in two weeks, I found myself a VIP and a photographer out of my normal element (first as a wedding crasher then escorted underground with some miners in Idaho). This time I tagged along with a handful of players and coaches with St. Kilda Saints, a professional Aussie Rules football team in town to train at altitude in Boulder. The contingent watched some Broncos practice, toured the NFL team's Dove Valley headquarters, and met with a few players and coaches. The highlight for me was walking through the Bronco's locker room while the players were practicing. All their personal effects and half of their gear was strewn about the room and the St. Kilda guys and I just took it in. It was not the most photogenic photo opp, but I think the guys enjoyed it and I made a few pictures. Images copyright Getty Images 2012.

November 28, 2012 - Sunshine Silver Mine

After spending two days in an old rat-invested warehouse counting pipe fittings, bearings, old electrical motor components, rock bolts, dywidags, and light bulbs, our Denver contingent was given a tour of a newer portion of the historic - and infamous - facility. I didn't know before going, but learned via the mine's Wikipedia page that the mine was the site of a terrible 1972 fire underground that took the lives of 91 miners during the mine's peak years.

Despite the tragedy, the mine and the men and women who work there have a level of character unmatched in most of this country.

After the tour, I picked up a "kindle copy" of "The Deep Dark: Disaster and Redemption in America's Richest Silver Mine" - a great book by Gregg Olsen, that I definitely recommend to anyone with an interest in mining and cultural time capsules like the Silver Valley east of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

November 22, 2012 - Thanksgiving Weekend at Hocking Hills

Another year, another amazing get-together in a not-so-rustic cabin nestled in the Hocking Hills southeast of Columbus, Ohio. 31 people total made the trip, and as usual I assigned myself the task of documenting the weekend and trying to capture the variety of personalities in attendance. Cards were played and we ran out of whiskey a few times, and other than the fact that SOMEone has to lose "The Game" between Michican and Ohio State, good times were had by all for all four days we spent there. We went a day early to get out of town as a family and go to the Columbus Zoo.

November 18, 2012 - Tyler-Moran Wedding

I had the distinct privilege of shooting Mike and Meghan's wedding without actually having to shoot it all myself. I worked as a third-string fringe photographer and enjoyed the perks of being an honorary groomsman and Moran after his family took me in as one of my own. I almost re-wrote the definition of wedding crasher and had a blast, and hopefully helped the couple remember the day. The full set of images can be seen here.
