March 8, 2013 - Blackhawks at Avalanche

The Blackhawks had a 30-game point streak (no regulation losses) coming into last night's game against the "thoroughly mediocre" Avalanche, which was the second longest in NHL history. The new-look avalanche (Ryan O'Reilly returning to his home ice and a nifty power play utilizing the top 5 forwards on the ice at the same time) showed them a dominant second period with four goals scored, in addition to goals in the first and third periods. The crowd was probably 50% Blackhawks fans, but the home fans got loud as the game progressed. The images above aren't my "best" of the game but I wanted to show the celebration of each of the four second period goals in one post.

August 18, 2012 - Marlins at Rockies

And for my second weird MLB record of the year (first one back in June)... Giancarlo Stanton hits a homerun in his sixth game at Coors Field, after also hitting homeruns in his first five games played there since last year. I was well positioned for the hit itself but the timing and focus wasn't quite perfect, so I'd settle for some of that famous Marlin's jube with colorful Jose Reyes.

June 30, 2012 - Padres at Rockies

Yasmani Grandal, the who was called up the same day, made Major League history on June 30 as he hit homeruns from each side of the plate for the first two hits of his career. Another unlikely homerun hitter, shortstop Alexi Amarista, also had two in the game, as the Padres beat the Rockies 8-4 on a fireworks night. Photos copyright Getty Images.
