December 19, 2013 - Oilers at Avalanche

I always enjoy shooting the Oilers, regardless of their record, for the young players and for the classic style. They play good hockey and the games in Denver always seem close. The Avalanche would take this one, though.

March 12, 2013 - Oilers at Avalanche

The Avalanche came out flat this time against the Oilers, and the only puck that ended up behind the Oilers goalie was called off due to Landeskog's presence in the crease. I always enjoy shooting the Oilers thanks to all their young stars and the energy they bring with them from the great white north.

February 2, 2013 - Oilers at Avalanche

Under no uncertain instruction to focus on the exciting young Oilers, I had my work cut out for me as the strong-at-home Avalanche spoiled the party. I missed a couple of shots I really wanted, but in the end probably weren't as important as I was setting them up to be, overall I'm happy with this take. I wish I would have turned in a little stronger game-day edit and I'm upset to see that my color was off on my initial takes (very easy adjustment in post but unfortunately I filed from the seats and wasn't seeing a problem at the time). Nice to see another home win for the Avalanche even if I was looking for more Oilers pictures this time. All images copyright Getty Images 2013.

March 10, 2012 - Oilers at Avalanche

Ryan Smyth celebrates a first period goal that wasn't enough, as Paul Stastny stumbles over his own goalie Semyon Varlamov looking dejected, confused.

18 year old Ryan Nugent-Hopkins proves that hyphenated last names can be cool. That kid looks young.

Overtime shootout win for the Avalanche despite a solid game from the Oilers young forwards and veteran Ryan Smyth. First star went to goalie Varlamov who had a great game behind his team.

March 5, 2011 - Oilers at Avalanche

The spectators, or at least the home fans, didn't get much of a hockey game Saturday night. If they were looking, though, they might have been entertained in other ways.

David Koci and Steve MacIntyre exchange blows to the delight of cellphone camera users in the first few rows.

Some young fans have some fun at everyone's expense.

Lauren Gardner, keeping everyone happy.

February 23, 2011 - Oilers at Avalanche

The bloodiest hockey game I have ever witnessed. McLeod was injured by a player's stick during an opening faceoff. He would return to the game.

Ryan O'Byrne continues to play out his entire shift after being sliced by Taylor Hall's skate. He would not return to the game.

Young Taylor Hall has a one-on-one with new Avalanche goalie Brian Elliott but is unable to add to the score. The Oilers would take this one 5-1.

February 6, 2010 - Oilers at Avalanche

Nice, balanced image of young defenseman Kyle Cumiskey.

The Av's have beaten the Oilers by a score of 9-0 in their last two contests in Denver. Not much else to say.

January 18, 2010 - Oilers at Avalanche

The Av's went on a tear this month - winning 6 in a row, including this one against the Oilers. One of the stars for the Av's of the evening was Kyle Cumiskey, who had 2 goals in the 6-0 routing. Not the most interesting image, but I like shooting photos of these guys in their early years.

November 8 - Oilers at Avalanche

Av's finally lost one at home. Too many power play goals against, not enough offense. 3 goals is decent but it would have taken 6 tonight. Not much else to say. I chose a photo that has illustrates the outcome of the game. David Jones, who had his 6th goal in the third period, was tripped up in front of the net, but no penalty was called.

Next game won't be until the 14th.
