September 5, 2013 - NFL Season Opener - Ravens at Broncos

There were a lot of great storylines to follow for this NFL season opener on September 5, Thursday night, at Sports Authority Field in Denver. Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, opening their season on the road? A low temperature of -10 degrees F on January 12, and a high temp of 97 degrees F on September 5 (both dates featured the Ravens visiting the Broncos)? A Giant picture of Joe Flacco hung on the side of the stadium? A relatively even first half? Then, Peyton Manning would go all signature Peyton Manning and throw the first 7-touchdown game since 1969, throwing for 462 yards in the process. For me, it was a great honor to cover and I was lucky when a majority of the scoring happened on my corner of the field. Photos copyright Getty Images 2013.

January 12, 2013 - AFC Divisional Game - Ravens at Broncos

A game that was predicted to be a tidy home win for the Broncos, featuring two teams known for their sound defensive play, ended up being an offensive blowout for both teams. The Broncos had help from their 169-lb, 5' 5" kickoff returner Trindon Holliday's two return touchdowns, while the Ravens took advantage of the Broncos poor ball handling including a Manning fumble and two interceptions. For me personally the game was a challenge due to the temperature and the crowded sideline, and I had a mix of good luck and not as good. Demaryius Thomas' fourth quarter touchdown (which could have been the game winner) came right to me, while I ignored my hunch about Trindon Holliday's return prowess and missed his record-breaking second return of the game by traveling to the wrong side of the field at the start of the second half. Equipment and finger function were negatively affected by the freezing temperatures. Between the three of us working the game we did make some nice pictures and it was a very cool experience. December 30, 2012 - Chiefs at Broncos

The Broncos embarrassed the visiting Chiefs by a score of 38-3, Peyton Manning had another 3-TD, 300-yd, zero-interception game, and the Broncos secured the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs (with help from the Colts). I made images of 4 of the games 5 touchdowns, a few of which were spectacular, but I wasn't overly excited with my position relative to any of them. The Thomas/Decker/Stokley celebration image is one of my favorites from this year's NFL season though and overall I like my take. All images are copyright Getty Images 2012.

December 23, 2012 - Browns at Broncos

The Broncos win their tenth in a row against the Cleveland Browns. Not much news value except for solidifying the Broncos hold on a high playoff seed after losses by the Texans and Patriots. I had a decent game and enjoyed the light and for the first time this year, worked from the Broncos sideline. A couple of key Browns players suffered injuries, so this was painful for their fans, including many of my own family members.

October 28, 2012 - Saints at Broncos

Manning and the Broncos looked like AFC contenders and professional football players in their 34-14 win over the disappointing 2012 Saints on Sunday night. Peyton's fourth quarter toss to Eric Decker (last picture above) put him in sole possession of the NFL record with the most games with at least three touchdowns and no interceptions, surpassing Brett Favre, with 37 (thanks Z for the heads up...). Brees barely passed for 200 yards but did get off a touchdown pass to Darren Sproles in the second quarter that kept his streak alive with 50 games in a row with at least one touchdown pass.
