2008 and 2009 Pro and collegiate sports tearsheets

I pulled these together for ICON and thought I would post them here as well. I save down screenshots and scans of the published work I can find, so here they are for 2008 and 2009. I'll post the first half of 2010 later this year. I actually have tons of these but this is an edit of some of my favorites and / or more prominently placed shots.

2008:

An interesting perspective on campaign finance used Manny Ramirez's salary to make the point.

2009

My favorite assignment ever? Maybe. My press pass? Resembled a strip club wristband.

Goalie action.

This shot gave me an opportunity to say "hey" to this nice gal. My image is the girl on the left.

Loved this usage.

Holliday has always sold lots of images for me.

Blown calls of the playoffs. This was terrible as it was part of the reason that series didn't go 5 games......

April 26, 2010 - Diamondbacks at Rockies

A three-run homer from Adam LaRoche and a pair of runs later on would hand the Rockies an opening game loss against the Dbacks. This Monday night game though was special for being the 15th anniversary of Coors Field opening night, where Dante Bichette smacked a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 14th inning on April 26, 1995. Bichette threw out the first pitch to former teammate Larry Walker and was recognized by the owners of the Rockies. I grabbed a decent frame of the former Blake Street Bombers after the ceremonial first pitch.
Former Rockies players and Blake Street Bombers Dante Bichette, right, and Larry Walker share a laugh after Bichette threw out the ceremonial first pitch during a ceremony for Bichette before a regular season Major League Baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.

Colorado Rockies second baseman Clint Barmes (12) can't handle a throw from the catcher attempting to throw out Arizona Diamondbacks center fielder Chris Young stealing 2nd base.

Dan Haren was good, striking out ten Rockies in 8 innings of work.

It wasn't actually THIS cold. But thanks to this ump for the image.

April 20, 2010 - Sharks at Avalanche NHL Western Conference quarterfinals game 4

Av's played well, unfortunate finish. All four games (so far...) have been decided by one goal. This one went to overtime. Both goalies basically stood on their heads and stopped virtually everything.

April 15, 2010 - Mets at Rockies

I noticed a few collisions in the edit today, so here they are. Mets took the finale 5-0 on a perfect day.

April 14, 2010 - Mets at Rockies

Nice walk-off win. Chris Iannetta finished it in the bottom of the 10th against the Mets. Nice series though. Here's a series of jube shots, including Iannetta tossing the bat over his shoulder as he realizes he nailed it.

April 13, 2010 - Mets at Rockies

Rockies blasted the Mets 11-3, led by "the Smith Brothers" (SP Greg Smith in his Coors debut and LF Seth Smith who started the game) who are not actually brothers but share a last name. My favorite images, though, came from before the game as Jose Reyes got ready and laughed with teammates. He spent the beginning of 2010 and most of 2009 on the disabled list so I followed his moves with my camera closely. He didn't seem to mind and I made some nice shots.

Mets SS Jose Reyes laughs before the game.

April 11, 2010 - Kings at Avalanche

In a game that did not matter to the Av's at all, they showed up and played pretty well and gave the crowd something to cheer for. In the end, the Kings needed the points, and got two with a sudden-victory win on a nice goal by Dustin Brown. I liked the jube shot I eneded up with from Brown, with Av's goalie Craig Anderson looking pretty dejected in the background. This game did not matter for the Av's, but from here out, they all matter. Playoffs starts Wednesday.

Los Angeles Kings players react after right wing Dustin Brown (23) scored a game winning goal in overtime past Colorado Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson (41) during a regular season game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The Kings defeated the Avalanche 2-1 in sudden victory overtime.

Defenseman Ryan Wilson laid a nice check on Brad Richardson. I don't know why but the two teams definitely played a rough game.

Paul Stastny ended the season with 20 goals and 59 assists for 79 points. He also took a puck or stick to the face and wore the mark like a badge of courage.

The captain, Adam Foote, has a talk with the team MVP, Craig Anderson.

Next up, playofffs. The Av's open against the Sharks on the road and the series comes to Denver on Sunday, April 18.

April 10, 2010 - Padres at Rockies

Padres handed the Rockies a 14 inning loss. Still adjusting to shooting the slower game of baseball as compared to hockey. The Padres are not the most inspiring team but I had a few I liked.

The Toddfather, Todd Helton, has been good in '10 but looks a little fragile to me. Here he reacts after smashing himself in the shin or foot.

HR for Iannetta. He's got pop, needs to work on the AVG.

Third baseman Chase Headley.

Latos got lit up. 2 homer night for Hawpe, who is rounding the bases in the background as Latos thries to shrug it off.

April 9, 2010 - Opening Day / Padres at Rockies

Opening day at Coors. This is a drinking event in Denver. The fans got what they would have hoped for in the win, and as a bonus, a surprising and awesome performance from the pitching staff. De La Rosa, Betancourt, and Rogers combined for a two-hit shutout. It was great to see the look on Esmil Rogers' face after he retired Adrian Gonzalez in the top of the 9th with a strikeout.

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa during a Major League Baseball game between the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. The Rockies beat the Padres 7-0 in the Coors Field home opener. De La Rosa struck out 9 in seven shutout innings to set a Rockies home opener strikeout record.

Esmil Rogers worked a 1-2-3 9th inning. Not a lot of pressure with the 7-0 lead, but a nice showing regardless.

Tulowitzki.

Car-go fast. Hitting .450 at this point and looking cool doing it.

Adrian Gonzalez looks frustrated after his first of 3 K's on the day.

Tulo doing a teammate a favor by signaling that a throw is coming to the plate. Didn't matter...

April 3, 2010 - Fire at Rapids

A little daytime soccer, a tie, and a halftime concert from a band I have paid to see.

Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings seds a shot in front of Chicago Fire forward Collins John.

Johnny 5 of Flobots.

MACKENZIE, of my dreams (and of Flobots).

April 2, 2010 - Flames at Avalanche

Had a nice key moment from this one. This loss to the Flames was a pretty tough one - since with it the Flames tied the Avalanche in points. Spoiler alert: The Av's clinched a playoff spot several days later, meaning the Flames are out.

Calgary Flames left wing Nigel Dawes (15) scores past Colorado Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson (41).

March 31, 2010 - Ducks at Avalanche

The dreaded Ducks came to town and ate the Av's breakfast. Not a great game for me besides a little jube from a pair of potential hall-of-famers.

Anaheim Ducks right wing Teemu Selanne (8) and teammate center Saku Koivu (11) celebrate a Selanne goal (the 601st of his career).

A buddy of mine lent me his 12-24mm lens for a period. It's a wild perspective and would be fun to have on me all the time. Here's a shot of Anderson during player introductions.

March 13, 2010 - Copper Mountain Slalom

Shot some ski racing to warm up for USASA nationals. This past week I shot this for 5 days straight, and ended up with 5,000 shots just like this one.
